This bespoke commission was ordered by a “Rolls-Royce connoisseur” and will forever remain a unique car, so there are slim chances Disney’s live-action reenactment of the 101 Dalmatians (should be next after Beauty and the Beast) won’t have it as Cruella de Vil’s car.
You may or may not like this yacht on wheels, but you can’t argue with the fact that it’s absolutely incredible – or so we were told by the lucky ones that got to see it in the metal during this year’s edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. It started life as a Phantom and the idea of the owner – who worked closely with the craftsmen at Rolls – was to honor the extravagant shapes of the 1930s, it seems. The design took years to be complete, and includes a two-seat layout with the rear bench axed for a wood mid-shelf with an illuminated glass lip. There’s also a wood hat shelf, polished and inset with luggage rails and surrounded by a large teardrop-shaped glass roof.
The company’s CEO, Torsten Müller-Otvös, has dismissed rumors of a £10 million price point, calling it speculation, but did confess this one-of-a-kind Sweptail is “probably the most expensive new car ever.” The coachbuild even includes its own set of luggage – but Rolls kept us in the dark about the interior or performance details. They did concede the Sweptail features a pair of handmade attaché cases concealed in the outboard walls on both sides of the car, as well as a built-in mechanism in the center console able to bring out a bottle of champagne and two crystal flutes.
